Intergenerational Teamwork. At the heart our approach is the common sense idea that mentoring works well in teams, for intergenerational perspectives make teamwork that much more powerful. Older persons bring experience; younger folks bring energy and relevance. Together, they're a powerful.

A good mentor takes on the following roles and tasks:
- first, as a diagnostician in “making a map” of those physical and psychological settings and situations where there is negative energy; and in "minding the gaps" to pinpoint where intentions get blocked from turning into results;
- second, as a designer in “building the app” (i.e.,determining the right approaches to take in leveraging the most viable community resources) to create an individualized plan).
- third, as an "advocate” in carrying out the plan once the diagnostic and designing functions have been completed, coordinating with those organizations and individuals within a community.
