ELDER-LED PROJECTS
If there's a thru-line in what we do, it is that we take on the needs of future generations. And we do this through our powers to bring together the generations around a common set of tasks.
In particular, we bring what is abstract and distant into the accessible here-and-now. That is, we bring the future into the present. And we do it by enabling youth confront the next generation of mid-lifers, the most powerful people in the room, with us elders exercising our convening powers.
At this moment we're putting these convening powers to work into two initial Let's-Be-Changemakers initiatives:
Our Mission. We equip older persons to build multi-generational teams that draw upon the methods of successful social entrepreneurs. In particular, we approach common problems in a variety of unconventional ways -- directly, indirectly and through groups -- that can yield significant, measurable results. One such example is the indirect approach we take to climate change -- by creating a neutral "space" where the generations can shed their stereotypes and preconditions of each other in an effort to transcend our "cultural short-termism."
Our Projects. We're initially focusing on climate change and the social and emotional well-being of our grandchildren.
As we grow, we plan to take on other initiatives as elder leaders emerge and as we build up our bandwidth.
Our Call to Action for the Adverse Childhood Experiences Project. We are currently looking for a small team of older adult leaders who can turn this vision into action. Let's call them The Elder ACES Advisory Team.
