The three planning phases of changemaking are “making the map,” “minding the gap,” and “building the app.”
Making the Map is the processes of getting our bearings and identifying those environmental domains that are underperforming.
Minding the Gaps is about finding those channels (the routes that take intentions into results) where energy gets trapped.
Building the App is the process of creating the platform upon which the changemaker can take action. It involves:

Building the App is the process of creating the platform upon which the changemaker can take action. It involves:
- Deciding on one or more of the “three approaches” to change—direct, group or indirect;
- Determining how much force to exert as the leverage needed to release trapped energy;
- Building the platform upon which to lower costs and add value, forming a team, articulating a vision, creating a “sticky”message and ensuring accountability through measuring intended results.
